[Someone went to pick up a certain gift for a certain someone both him and Basil care a lot about and... turns out Kel is pretty much terrible at holding himself back when it comes to getting stuff for his friends. And he has been reading, too! About things that can help people with their mood and he found a chapter about 'therapy animals' really interesting. Now... did he manage to finish reading it? Barely. Did he get to do more research on the matter? Not yet. Still, as he went to the large Shard, Kel made sure to ask something more than just his powers and a weighted blanket that was now sitting in his backpack.
The teen hopped toward the garden Basil tended (Well, he helped too, but it was mostly watering stuff with his powers and carrying the heavy stuff around with the excuse of 'this is all workout and I love it!'), a large box between his hands. It was covered in teal present paper, it had a big bow on top and... Kel was hiding the holes he made to make sure his little present had enough air inside it by keeping them against his chest.]
Oh Baaaaaasil? Guess what- I got something for you too! [He asked for an animal 'perfect' for his buddy, that meant it was what Basil needed, right? RIGHT? He just wanted to do the right thing for once. Oh, right, he wasn't supposed to tell the other he actually invested shards in this-] Well, more like 'found' but it's the same.
( More than anything else, Basil had been focused on growing the things that he had not only promised to Kel, but others he had met, too. Working on this was the least he could do for them after all the kindness that he had showed them.
He stops from watering the plants when Kel calls for him. He had said that he had plans to go into town, but he hadn't asked just what he had planned on doing once he arrived there. Looking upwards, he looks to the box with curiosity before he pushes himself to stand. )
For me? Is that why you went into town...?
( He's not used to so much kindness at this point... It's nice, but a little overwhelming. )

I also got Sunny's present. But I have two hands, I can carry two presents.

Just give me a big smile, that's more than enough for me. After all you already are helping me learn so much stuff, both in the kitchen and the garden department!
[Kel looks as happy as a kid right no, just carefully holding the box from below so there will be no risk of the bottom opening and anything happening to the kitten inside.]
( Basil's feelings when it comes to Sunny is... complicated at best. But, he didn't want to miss his birthday. If... he really wanted Basil there, that is. Truthfully, having Kel there may help. Living with him has helped him feel more comfortable settling in in general.
Basil blinks for a moment at the box, quietly stepping forward. He reaches for the box, following Kel's actions. He's careful, holding the bottom as he opens the top of it a little more -- peeking inside and stopping in surprise.
It's not what he was expecting at all. Basil was expecting a plant, but... a pet? He's never had a pet before. Was it really alright? He doesn't really know much about taking care of an animal...
But, it's really, really cute. Looking at it makes his heart swell. Kel had been thinking of him so much that he took the time to get something so special for him... He isn't used to it. It's foreign at this point, but... it's nice, too. )
[Welcome to the club, Kel is also into 'it's complicated' department with Sunny, even if it may for very different reasons. After all, it's complicated with Basil too, he's just increasingly better at hiding it. Not to mention... yes, Basil stabbed Sunny, but Basil was also such a kind and sweet person, the more they lived together the more Kel appreciated him. The situation was really shitty back home, huh?
Kel only offers a large grin as the other processes the present, trying to look as reassuring as possible.]
Sometimes you look a bit lonely and lost in thoughts and I was thinking... I am often around training, right? You could probably use someone who keeps you company all the time- and that can cuddle you. Pets are great for that.
[Just company, it wasn't like he straight up asked for a therapy pet. A loyal, sweet and affectionate animal picked right for Basil. Still, he knows animals can be a big responsibility, so...]
Oh! And you don't have to worry about a thing! I got him a litter and food and all, I can take care of that since I was already doing so for Hector and I know how those things work. You can just enjoy the company. I've been guaranteed this kitten is a lazy one, they'll probably love sitting around in the garden while you work!

( If only Basil knew what Kel knew... Then again, it's for the best that he doesn't know what the future has in store for him.

It meows quietly in response, purring as it reaches for Basil's shoulders to rest there comfortably. If Kel was looking for a smile from Basil, he definitely got one just now. Even with Basil's uncertainty, it was definitely cute... )

( The last thing he wants is to not take proper care of him... A pet is a huge responsibility! All the same, he doesn't want to say no to the gift... Kel obviously put a lot of thought and care into doing something like this. )
[There is a big reason Kel has not been able to speak yet. How to share this truth without hurting people he loves so much? This should all be healing time for Basil and Sunny, that's what he decided- if they aren't going to remember anything when they go back home... he can at least do his best here, right?
Ah- look at that smile. Now that was worth the shards and the efforts in getting everything ready to adopt a kitten for the house. He could just hope the large crystal actually listened to him and this was in fact the perfect pet for Basil.
