[When he tripped on a blank pumpkin, Kel didn't immediately realized something was wrong. He didn't immediately associate it with a growing sense of dread and fear... and that was probably a mistake. His warped perception of reality was not helping, but the constant seeing Something in the corner of his eyes, a shadow moving after him whenever he lowered his guard... it didn't help with the fact he was now convinced Something was stalking he and his friends in that place. The orange was mixed with black, the vines turned into hands in his head and before he could register it Kel was already rushing back home.
Something was there. Something was finally making its move and while he also needed to protect Aubrey to some degree... Basil was home, alone, and for too long he had been that Thing's main target. He had to protect Basil, even if he didn't really know what to do beside using water to deter that creature- water worked, right?]
Basil!
[He almost slammed the door to the cottage open, rushing inside and startling little Marigold. The other was fine, right? That monster didn't get to him first, did it?]
( It's not just Kel who seems to be going through something odd. Ever since Basil had stepped into one of the fairy rings, his thoughts had been going back to Kel almost nonstop. He wants to see him, he has to see him. It reminds him so much of when he was last in Faraway, when he was begging for Sunny not to leave him.
But, that's silly. It's a ridiculous thought. He had faith in Kel. There's no reason for him to run. And whatever happened, they'd work through it together. Basil wanted to have faith in that.
When Kel slams the door open, Basi feels himself jump - heart thudding quickly in his chest. He feels himself panic when he hears Kel, and he moves quickly to make his way to the front of the cottage. )
Kel -- Kel, what's wrong? Are you okay?
( Was something wrong? Was something out there? Things happen so suddenly here, it could be anything? )
[Ah, this place messing around wiith people's heads... isn't it always the best? Kel pretty much beelines toward Basil as soon as he spots him, trying to wrap his hands around his waist and pull him up between his arms. Part of Kel knows he should check on Aubrey too, but he has priorities and Basil is the single most important person in his life.]
I'm fine. I'm fine, I just...
[It doesn't matter what or their position, he'd try to lean in to kiss the other. He had been so worried for a moment but the other is still there... warm and alive. Now the most important thing was not getting Basil to panic and... keeping him safe.]
I thought I saw something outside and... I don't know, I got suddenly worried about you? I rushed home as soon as possible, I'm just... so glad you're okay.
[If Something is around, he cannot let Basil out of his sight, can he?]
( Basil feels his arms wrap around him, and he feels the way his heart stutters as it always does - his arms finding their way around him in return, burying his head against his chest. It's comfortable and warm, as it always is. He feels safe. )
It's okay, Kel. Nothing is here, I promise. It's just you, me, and Marigold.
( He's reassuring him the best he can, hand gently moving up and down to rub the other's back. )
[He holds onto Basil like he's afraid to let him go. That thing killed Mari so easily, what if he let it get close to Basil once more? The teen let out a shaky breath.]
I believe you. I truly do. And it's such a relief, Basil...
[He glances around the room, looking for shadows, looking for things that may hurt them, but Kel isn't able to see anything for now.]
Of course. No more lies or secrets, right?
[They're safe. They're safe... a tendril like extension appears behind them to turn the lock of their door and then slides back, offering the keys to Basil to let the other know he's not trapped inside, they're keeping something out and that's for immediate security.]
That thing you shown me, it was outside. I had to some here to make sure you were safe. But we're both here, now... things will be okay. Everything will be fine.
( Basil freezes where he stood. For a moment, he isn't sure if he had maybe seen Sunny or Something. After all, Basil knows what had happened with his memories. He knows that the pictures were replace with something else entirely. What if this place was messing with Kel? What if, he saw something that wasn't there?
He's almost as afraid that that's the case. If this place is showing illusions, how far will they go?
Still, he grips at the other's clothing, pulling away just enough for his eyes to meet with Kel's. )
You're right. It... It'll be okay, Kel. I'll keep you safe from it, I promise...
I've been working hard so I can do that. I won't let anything hurt you.
[If it was Sunny, it was for the best Kel simply ran away instead of... blindly attacking him, right? The last thing anyone wanted was to have someone strong as Kel currently was punching someone as frail as the other boy.
He seems hesitant to let the other put some distance between them, but nods in his direction.]
It will be fine. Everything will be fine.
We will protect each other, right? We're partners, we'll both do our best. I trust you and I ask ou o trust me. I... it will be fine! I know that thing tormented ou for yeas, but you're no longer on your own.
( Of course they'll protect each other. Basil would do absolutely anything for Kel, even if it meant sacrificing himself for him, he'd do it. All he wants is for him to be safe, and happy.
He doesn't mind if Kel hasn't pulled away. He'd keeping him as close as he can, too. )
Of course, Kel... No matter what happens, we'll stay close to one another. We've already been through so much together here.
I'm-- so glad that you're here with me. I just wish you weren't in danger.
